Ron Paul Wins Virgin Islands Caucus
Saturday, Texas congressman, Ron Paul, ended his drought and won his first caucus – primary state vote in the 2012 election year cycle. Ron Paul posted 29% of the popular vote in the Virgin Islands’ Caucus. Former Massachusetts Governor, Mitt Romney came in second with 26%. Former Senator, Rick Santorum and former House Speaker, Newt Gingrich, followed with 6% and 5% respectively.
The victory announcement leaked out Sunday, when official returns were posted by the GOP. The story was somewhat anti-climactic. Saturday news stories had erroneously declared former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney the winner. In a moment reminiscent of the Iowa Caucus, where a Romney supporting, GOP Chairman had refused to release data showing former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, not Romney, as the winner, the Virgin Island GOP Chairman, Herb Schoenbohm, publicly announced to reporters that Romney had won the Virgin Island Caucuses. Schoenbohm told reporters that Romney could count on seven delegates from the Islands and had picked up three more in voting in St. Thomas and St. Croix. Ron Paul got one delegate. Most news agencies duly reported the Schoenbohm announcement, learning on Sunday that Ron Paul had actually won the popular vote.
Ironically, the Ron Paul campaign has pursued the same delegate hunting strategy that Romney employed in the islands in numerous caucus states where other candidates have been declared the winners. The Paul campaign contends that it may have actually won Iowa, Minnesota, Maine, North Dakota, Colorado and other caucus states where Romney or Santorum have been called the winners and where they won the popular vote. The delegate selection in those states is still pending and is unrelated to the popular vote. Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum campaigns are cooperating in Minnesota to try to stop a Ron Paul takeover of the State GOP. Meanwhile the old Romney GOP Chairman in Iowa is out and A. J. Spiker, the former State Co-Chairman of the Ron Paul Presidential Campaign has been named as the new Iowa GOP State Chairman.
The Ron Paul win of the Virgin Islands Republican Caucus should come as a relief for the thousands of Ron Paul supporters, calling themselves “Ronulans,” who vowed to move to the first state or territory that their candidate wins. Some were fully prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice and move to North Dakota, where cars must be plugged into an electric socket at night, not to recharge but just to be able to start the next morning. The Ronulans can now fulfill their vows and move to St. Johns, St. Thomas or St. Croix and enjoy sandy beaches, the smell of suntan lotion with coconut oil and feel the warm breezes while reading about the latest quantitative easing in their Wall Street Journals.
The next four contests are on Tuesday, where Republicans in Alabama, Mississippi, Hawaii and American Somoa will chose among the four remaining Republican contenders.

I am surprised that you have the facts so wrong and posted them as truth. There is NO popular vote in the VI caucus. All votes are cast for potential delegates only… and not for any candidate. Each voter can vote for up to six delegates. The top six vote getters become delegates to the RNC The next six become alternates.
Again, there is NO popular vote in the VI caucus. I truly understand how the numbers posted by the VI GOP could be confusing. But, they are cumulative numbers of all votes received by potential delegates.
Only one of the top six was declared for Paul. Three were declared for Romney, two were uncommitted (one later declared for Romney).
Paul did not win the “popular vote” because there was no popular vote. To say otherwise if inaccurate and brings into question all statement you make. You should correct this error.
The article I referenced indicates there are 2 votes, one for the candidate, and one for the delegates. Although not a general election, there is a caucus vote that is a “popular” candidate vote. There are MUCH bigger problems when discussing RP than that. LOL
What I don’t understand is why the total percentage doesn’t come anywhere close to 100%.
There was only ONE vote in the VI caucus. It is for potential delegates. There is NO vote for any republican candidate. So, no candidate received ANY votes… not Paul, not Romney.
There is no “popular vote” in the VI GOP caucus. Again, there is only one vote… not two. And it is STRICTLY for potential delegates.
Trying to spin this into a “popular vote” win is absolutely nonsense. It does not speak well of the candidate, his advisers, his staff or supporters when they are confused by such elementary math.

The bottom line is Ron got 1 delegate, Romney 7. Since Ron says it’s all about the delegate count, I wouldn’t call this a win. But when you’re as desperate as Ron Paul is, pass me the bong and let’s all inhale together! LOL

Going slightly off topic… I know that there’s probably a ton of advise that the campaign is getting from all sorts of self-proclaimed but well-intentioned “advisors”. I am one of them 🙂 I already sent this piece to the campaign, but would also like you to have a look at this. i am posting it here, because this blog is relatively quiet so that my comment will not get lost too quickly.
The daunting question the campaign was trying to answer was why RP doesn’t get the same traction with older voters, as he gets with the younger ones. I know there is a new 50+ superbrochure. I think also that when talking at venues where majority of attendees are older folks, RP could slightly adjust his vocabulary and the structuring of his message to be more appealing to this group. I know that it is already half into the campaign, and changing anything too much can be dangerous, but a slight alteration perhaps would be just the thing that is needed. Take a look at an attempt of a speech I tried to put up that would be advocating liberty without the use of the word “liberty” itself (it may make people think RP is libertarian, not republican) and looking from the perspective of issues that I think are important to older voters (morality, security, economy).
1. I am deeply concerned with the moral decay in our country. Our conservative social values are eroded by the liberals who have hijacked and abused the judicial and legislative branch. We should go back to our families, to our churches, local communities. We should get rid of the anonymous state social engineering apparatus, that tells people what to do, that forces people to have birth control in their medical insurance coverage, forces them to go through humiliating treatment at airports, strips them of their constitutional rights, when SWAT teams raid their houses and kill innocent Americans in the war on drugs (some statistics here would be useful). These issues were always taken care of by our local communities. Imagine what it would be like, if the states could decide what they want to do about abortion, drug use, gay marriage, etc. Abortion would be illegal in most of America, with proper services provided to women who are in such a desperate situation to consider abortion. Local communities, churches, would deal with people, who were so unfortunate to fall into drugs. States would educate their citizens about the dangers of drug abuse and there would be a far greater number of social organizations that deal with this problem. Imagine America being again a land of free and prosperous people, who know how to deal with their local communities’ problems. There is a way to get there: limit the federal government and the lunatic social engineering career politicians, that have been lying to us over the last quarter century.
II. I am also deeply concerned about the security of our nation. We are following the path of greatest empires we know from history. Each and every one of them at one point abandoned their roots and overextended itself in a quest to dominate their neighbors – and failed after that. We have to ask ourselves a question what is important to us – do we want to be remembered in history as yet another great empire, that colonized half of the world, and then collapsed, bringing chaos and civil war to its citizens? Or do we want to live in a free, prosperous way, taking care of our families and making friends and trade with foreign countries? Do we want to invade others only to kill hundreds of thousands of families that had nothing to do with us, and eventually retreat in disgrace like in Vietnam? Or do we want to be remembered as skilled diplomats that backed by the mightiest military machine of all times were still able to resolve conflicts quickly and swiftly with a minimal waste of life and resources, like we did with the Soviet Union? Our national security is compromised today – not by the poor countries on the other end of the globe, not by the cave-dwelling insurgents in Afghanistan, who fight us, because our soldiers killed their wives and their children, and profanated their quoran, but by our foolish quest to impose our wish on other people in too many countries, too far away. What we need instead is a national defense system that is mightier and smarter than what we have right now. We need to focus on our homeland. We need to secure our borders in a smart and efficient way. There is a civil war going on in Mexico for a couple years already. Drug gangs are killing innocent people, army is on the streets because the police is too corrupt. We need to think about this problem, we need to cooperate with Mexico in resolving the drug war problem, because it is creating a much greater danger to us, much closer to our homes, than a distant cave-dwelling afghan insurgent. We need to have the best fleet in the world, patrolling the sea routes vital to our national interest and to our trade. Should anyone, including Iran, take over and block such a route and in this way cause a threat to our trade and national interest, we should be able to quickly and swiftly respond through efficient diplomatic action backed up by the military that noone dares to fight with. Each military action should be a decision of the American people, as we are the ones that take the cost and the potential death toll of each and every such action. Therefore it should be taken to Congress and a proper declaration of war should be approved.
3. Last but not least – I am deeply concerned with the state of our economy. Economy is not banks, wall street and multinational corporations. Economy is you and me, our jobs, our children’s futures. And it is failing, because it is stifled by inefficient banks, irresponsible wall street and self-obsessed multinational corporations. Those three entities have hijacked the political class and lobbied them into transforming the economic system to serve their needs. Wall Street keeps receiving record bonuses while the average american keeps paying higher prices and worrying about losing his job. The Federal Reserve is totally out of control, creating trillions of dollars to prop up their failing friends. The worst part about that is that we don’t even know what happens there exactly. The Fed constantly refuses to publish relevant information or to get audited, completely ignoring the fact that it is managing the money that we use every day. The level of moral decay on wall street, in banks and in multinational corporations is way beyond acceptable, and we, American people, should say enough to this economic tyranny. We should demand full transparency of the Federal Reserve and then we will be able to decide what steps to take further to protect the value of our hard-earned savings.
I hope you got the time to read it and it makes sense so that RP can use this idea to broaden his appeal and win the republican nomination.
Rather than taking apart the above message (which would be easy to do), I will simply say this. It’s too late. RP isn’t going to win. LOL
The older crowd doesn’t use the internet for research, they rely on the TV for all of their info, so if there is a media blackout and a lot of dis-info, the older people are going to believe it. They don’t know any better. They are the TV generation, as in TV was a new thing when they were children and grew up believing in it and the message that it brought into their homes. They also grew up during the darkest part of the cold war where anti-government sentiment was seen as “evil” or “kooky.” Since the advent of the internet people have been able to break the trance of television culture and see the world outside the narrow framework of the spin machine. However, this older generation has not discovered the true potential of the internet like the younger generations have in learning to utilize its information spreading. But fortunately for the older generation, they don’t have to deal with the trolls, such as tex there, like we do.

Why Ron Paul would NOT be a good president:
1. He is old, mousey, whiny, grumpy, skinny, etc. Do not underestimate the importance of these factors, as a very large number of voters are not familiar with the issues, and vote for vanity. Sad but true. It does no good to have good ideas when you don’t have the presidential image, and Ron has neither.
2. He has been in Congress for 2 decades and doesn’t have a single bill to his name. We elected someone president with zero accomplishments in 2008, why would we want to do that again? How can you expect him to be able to lead the country when he can’t lead a single bill to fruition after 20 years?
3. He even voted against his own bill to audit the Federal Reserve, because he didn’t get every single detail he wanted. He is so stubbornly rigid he simply takes his toys and goes home if he doesn’t get every little detail he wants.
4. Many of his domestic policies are admirable, but how does he expect to implement them when he will have to work with Congress to get many of them turned into a reality? Will he simply hold his breath until Congress lets him get his way, because he has zero track record of using any other tactic to be successful?
5. Most of his foreign policies are dangerous. If we pull out of foreign countries, the vacuum WILL be filled by Russia, China, etc. Once you lose your toehold, it is VERY difficult to expand military operations if the need arises. Think about how hard it would have been for the U.S. to fight Hitler if England had fallen. For example, if China decides they don’t want to allow free flow of oil, we would have no recourse, as it takes years, if not decades, to develop independent energy sources. He is simply naive to the point of being a traitor to his own country. Also, we need forward positioned military presence to fight the global war on terror. It isn’t being fought only in Iraq and Afghanistan, there are operations literally around the world preventing future 9/11 type attacks that simply cannot be fought by guarding our own borders, 9/11 should have taught us that. We must therefore disrupt the terrorist cells wherever they are, so they cannot organize, plan, recruit, train, equip, and attack again. To not do this would be suicidal.
For the above and other reasons, Ron gets the pot smoking and “freedom at any cost” crowd, and that’s all he will ever get…LOL

“Former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson could pull as much as 6% of the vote in a hypothetical three-way match-up with Mitt Romney and President Obama. One honest person is needed to bring these logical conclusions to Romney’s PERSONAL ATTENTION (not the myopic sycophants surrounding him and stroking his ego by chanting wishful thinking as ‘fact’: “You gonna win Boss, you gonna win Boss….).
Regardless how egotistical, arrogant and narcissistic Romney may be, some semblance of reasoning of what’s best for him, should still remain in his skull. The instinct for self preservation dictates that even the smallest of minds will chose the path that leads to safety, not the one leading to disaster.
An honest realist needs to talk to Romney one-on-one — and explain the following to him, so Mitt can comprehend it:
1) If you don’t win the nomination, than your political career is over (you’ll become just a tiny footnote in US History as a failure).
2) If you win the nomination, and don’t defeat Obama — which is the most probable outcome (you’ll become just a tiny footnote in US History as an even LARGER failure).
Therefore, Dear Mitt, whichever gamble you take from the above, may lead to total disaster for your political career (and probably will)!
However, here is an action you can take, Dear Mitt, that guarantees you’ll become immortalized in the annals of US History — becoming the 21st Century Savior of America (surely this carrot of success will entice Romney’s egotism to go for it — over the probable political beatings he’d receive otherwise)!
All one needs to do, to assure Mitt’s Historical Greatness of Sacrifice for the Good of the Nation, is to present the above to Romney’s eyes alone! I urge all able to do so, to place this document in front of him!

It explains how Bain Capital worked. They would buy SUCCESSFUL companies, with little down, borrowed huge amounts, saddling them with crushing debt, refused to continue equipment purchases or maintenance. Then they would pay themselves huge “management” fees.

He’s “more of a parasitic capitalist, since he destroys profitable businesses.” (The host must be healthy enough to be force-fed all that debt, then slowly bled to death…until the parasites drain all the wealth for themselves).
“When Bain was about to buy a company, its partners would hold a meeting. “He said that about half the time [they] would talk about cutting workers,” Kosman says. “They would never talk about adding workers. He said that job growth was never part of the plan.” That claim was buttressed by the Associated Press, which studied 45 companies bought by Bain during Romney’s first decade. It found that 4,000 workers lost their jobs. The real figure is likely thousands higher, since the analysis didn’t account for bankruptcies and factory and store closings.
“The Armco plant closing involved more than the torching of 750 jobs, Morrow says. Contractors and suppliers collapsed. Workers’ children and widows lost health care and pension benefits. And while Bain received millions in tax breaks—paid for by the very people left holding the bag—Romney walked away millions richer.”
