What if Hillary is forced to drop out?

September 12, 2016

First, before I get started, let me say that this is not to question Hillary Clinton or her campaign. Don’t put me in the vile category of Matt Lauer who was taken to task by the New York Times for daring to ask her questions during a recent NBC forum.

And please don’t include me in “the deplorables” that Mrs. Clinton defines as racists, homophobes, Islamaphobes who support Trump. My circle of family and friends include all of the targeted groups she mentioned.

Clinton, who is the 2016 Democratic nominee for president has not actually had a press conference in 2016. And I completely understand why the New York Times wants her to be protected from prying questions. It now turns out that she has been ill for weeks.

This probably comes as no surprise to the long lines of well wishers she has been coughing over at events across America. There must be a trail of pneumonia a thousand miles long.

No, no, Hillary Clinton does not have neurological issues. Notwithstanding the concussion and the blood clot on the brain, this is not about any of that. This is just pneumonia. As Donald Trump would say, “Believe me.”  She just has highly contagious pneumonia. No neurological issues. It would be highly inappropriate to pry about that.

And to prove that point her campaign had her appear outside of Chelsea’s apartment and smile and wave to the media, who stood back to give her room to cough, and arranged for her to hug a little girl and get her picture taken. Apparently Hillary’s highly contagious pneumonia is not relevant for the little girl , after all, a photo op is a photo op.

A few nights before people paid $34,000 a piece to contract pneumonia. This little girl got it free.

But just for the record. Just to know. Just for fun. What would happen if Hillary Clinton’s health forced her to drop out of the presidential race?

Again, keep in mind, it’s not gonna happen. But let’s say for another candidate, one less protected by the New York Times and the 1% an ordinary, non Clinton candidate in the same situation.

FDR had polio and got elected. John F. Kennedy carried colitis, prostatitis and Addison’s disease into the White House with him. He was drugged throughout much of his presidency and suffered side affects such as depression. Of course, the voters didn’t know about all of this at the time.

Presidents and presidential candidates get sick like the rest of us. They even get pneumonia. President Eisenhower had heart attacks during his second term in office. In 1973, President Richard Nixon was hospitalized for pneumonia. When he was released he made such a subtle joke that the media missed it. Said Nixon, “The doctors tell me I feel fine.”

But okay, okay, if it were to happen, if you insist, let me tell you what we know about who would take her place.

In 1973, Senator George McGovern won the Democratic Nomination at the Convention in Miami. He chose Senator Thomas Eagleton of Missouri as his running mate.

Two weeks later it was learned that Eagleton had neurological issues. He did not have a blood clot on the brain like Hillary Clinton but he had suffered depression and was hospitalized and experienced electroshock therapy.

McGovern said I am 1,000 percent behind Eagleton. But there was such an animated discussion in the medical community that Eagleton was forced to resign from the ticket. McGovern chose Ambassador Sargent Shriver to replace him and the Democratic National Committee agreed.

Keep in mind. Technically, if Hillary withdraws, the Democratic National Committee will select her replacement. The Chairman of the DNC is that very angry, brooding presence on ABC television, Donna Brazile. But the delegates themselves are overwhelmingly Clinton, handpicked folks who will do as she directs.

What forced Eagleton from the ticket was the drumbeat in the medical community. It became a cacophony that the media could not ignore.

In this case, it is hard to imagine that the media and corporate elites who want Hillary are going to let pneumonia be a disqualifier. If raising $3 billion for quid pro quo selling of power and access is acceptable, then they will find the doctors to say what is needed to say to defend Hillary.

In the first debate, with all eyes on her health, Hillary Clinton will get that fast ball right down the middle of the plate and like Ronald Reagan, who was asked about his age, and knew the question was coming, she should be able to hit the ball out of the park.

“I will not make health an issue of this campaign,” she will say, “I will not exploit for political purposes my opponent’s irrational and unstable comments.”

Hillary “Rotten” Clinton went viral on Twitter before it was shut down.

July 25, 2016
.
Monday night at the Democratic National Convention delegates on the floor spontaneously drove up the Twitter search of #HillaryRottenClinton. It soon spread out of the arena in Philadelphia and across the nation, reaching 42k in a matter of minutes and was ranked number six before Sanders’ supporters claim that Twitter had apparently interfered and eliminated it as a viable hashtag.
At this writing, Twitter is still showing it as a “trending topic.” But not the hashtag. So what gives?
It seems that not only is DNC Chairman, Debbie Wasserman Schultz tilting the scales for Hillary Clinton, but according to some Bernie Sanders’ supporters, executives at Twitter, feeling the heat from the powerful political leader, are doing the same. Or does someone else have an explanation?
Yesterday, we woke to the news that months ago top officials at the DNC were brainstorming on how to smear Bernie Sanders to Southern Baptist ministers in the Party. The insider emails pointed out that not only was Sanders a Jew, but that he was likely an atheist, which was apparently fair game for the DNC operatives, who were rigging the primary process in favor of Hillary Clinton.
Just before the weekend, the choice of Senator Tim Kaine as Clinton’s running mate, had infuriated Sanders’ supporters who had hoped for someone who might champion their goals. Kaine is seen as the darling of the Wall Street 1% which plays into fears of rank and file Bernie Sanders supporters.
So what is it that Bernie Sanders die hard’s believe?  And what can Hillary do to win them over?
Many of the young people I spoke with see the American economy as co-opted by a new oligarchy. They spread the blame around to both Republicans and Democrats but most say it began in earnest with George W. Bush and the War in Iraq when billions of dollars were spent – off the books – resulting in a massive windfall for a few lucky corporations and, of course, the bankers who financed them. Meanwhile, the economy collapsed for everybody else.
But the Democrats don’t get off very easy either. Bernie supporters point to a University of California Berkeley study that shows the poor got poorer and the rich got richer under President Barack Obama.
According to the narrative of Bernie supporters, Obama stimulus legislation, that lawmakers admittedly did not read, provided massive exemptions from environmental regulations and other regulations for chosen big companies, all in the name of creating jobs, while small businesses had to keep them. The Federal Reserve made massive interest fee loans to some companies and nothing to others.
And corporate welfare, that is, direct money to companies from the taxpayers, soon towered above welfare to the poor and needy.
Both the Democrat and Republican political parties got money direct from the government pipeline to a few chosen, favored companies who in turn donated heavily back to the respective lawmakers.
According to Sander supporters, corruption in America has reached epic proportions. American now resembles a government on the subcontinent or in Latin America. And Hillary Clinton, who has telegraphed her willingness to be bought by apparently accepting donations to her Foundation in return for favors, is the epitome of that corruption.
The disheartened Sanders supporters declare that the American Dream is over. Supply and demand no longer work in a manipulated marketplace that is artificially controlled and its outcome predetermined by insiders who bet on what they know will happen.
Frustrated, heartbroken, weary, Bernie Sanders supporters inside the stifling Convention arena in Philadelphia tried to express themselves on Twitter, only to feel that this door too had been closed to them.
Perhaps it will all be unraveled tomorrow. Or perhaps they are asking to much. The Clintons, like the Lannisters from Game of Thrones, always pay their debts and there are too many people in corporate American who know that.

How Trump Wins?

March 29, 2016

What does Donald Trump need to do to nail down the Republican Nomination?

The last thing one would expect.

Money.

The last remaining, major piece in the Trump campaign is a successful, powerful, independent Super Political Action Committee to answer the bombardment which is only beginning.  And that requires money.

No matter how rich Mr. Trump may be, no one has the liquidity to toss another $1 billion into the fight. Only a PAC, supported by Trump’s best friends and masses of supporters can raise the money to close the deal for the nomination and keep him in the running in a general election fight that promises all of the attrition and violence of the Russo-German front during World War Two.

But why a PAC? Why not his own presidential campaign? Because a donor cannot give more than $2700 each to his campaign and the ways around it are mined with legal issues. But a donor can give as much as he or she wants to a PAC. And it will take big money to force the anti-Trump GOP establishment to back down and to beat Hillary Clinton.

What will a PAC do for him?

#1) It will help organize his ground game and get Trump loyal delegates to the RNC. This requires identifying Trump supporters and turning them out to the remianing District and State Conventions where they can contest for delegate spots to Cleveland.

If this doesn’t happen soon, Cruz will continue to put his people in place as he has done in Georgia and Louisiana and is in the process of doing in Arizona. At best, one could see a convention that cheers more for Cruz than Trump. At worst Trump could have the nomination taken away.

Even minimal work by a Trump PAC could defeat that. But the clock is ticking. Many State Conventions are already over.

#2) It would end the stop Trump cottage industry.

The stop Trump movement has become the industry of choice for all of the out of work political operatives from the other 16 presidential campaign. And it is beginning to pose a very serious problem. While its negative advertisements and mischief at District and State Conventions were at first only seen as irritants to getting the nomination, they are beginning to move numbers among Independents, Women and other groups that Trump will need in the general election.

For most of the anti-Trump operatives it is not about stopping the candidate it is about paying the mortgage. They gambled on their own candidates and lost. No hard feelings. Now they are making a living working for GOP establishment folk who favor an “open” convention or want to bring Trump to heel and get promises of corporate welfare and the right people in the right places.  But the more they work the more invested they become. And the closer to the general election we get the more money starts flowing to them from Democrat donors and special interests who favor Hillary Clinton.

If a Trump Super PAC starts answering ad for ad, pundit for pundit, calling for unity and exposing their funding, the stop Trump operatives will evaporate like snow on a hot afternoon.

Once again. It is a problem that can be fixed now but too little, too late could spell doom.

#3) It will put in place the massive machinery needed to win a general election contest against Hillary Clinton.

Some things take time. No matter how much money you have or how fast you are working. Donald Trump the builder of hotels knows that very well. And there are things that a PAC should be doing now to make a difference in November.

#4) A PAC can say and do things that the candidate should not say or do.

At some point, Donald Trump must appear presidential and let his PAC become his mad dog. That is its traditional role. But it won’t work if its not seen. And it won’t be seen if it’s not on television. And it won’t be on television if it doesn’t get funding fast.

Finally, there is this.  A PAC offers a donor their best chance to seal their friendship with a future president. Trump decries such arrangements but when the dust settles and Trump takes a survey of who helped him the most he will not miss the large donations that came to the PAC that put him in office.

Most Trump Super PAC’s have received cease and desist letters from the Trump campaign.  The Great America PAC, launched by Eric Beach is an exception and is running full board. It bears watching.

Lots of people are calling for a ban on PACS and resent their influence in presidential campaigns. In the meantime, Trump better get one going or he will be watching the inauguration of Hillary Clinton from the presidential suite of one of his hotels.

How Nancy Reagan forever changed the job of First Lady

March 11, 2016

Former First Lady, Nancy Reagan, will be laid to rest today in Simi Valley, California. She was a remarkable woman.

Overlooked in discussions of her role as the devoted wife is how she forever changed the role of First Lady. It was a role that was markedly different from any before her but one that will be studied and often copied by her successors.

Eleanor Roosevelt showed that a First Lady could be an activist. Both publicly and behind the scenes she lobbied her husband.  Sometimes unsuccessfully.  A very dramatic example was her reaction to learning of the death camps in Germany toward the end of World War Two.  Information now available to researchers shows that the First Lady lobbied her husband to bomb the camps.  It was an idea suggested by a member of the President’s cabinet. The thinking was that the bombing was risky to the inmates but it would disrupt the process and possibly allow for a mass escape. In retrospect, it might have saved hundreds of thousands of lives.

But FDR and his wife Eleanor were estranged and there were limits to what she could accomplish. Toward the end of his life, FDR brought in his own daughter, Anna, as a super White House staffer. Among other things she was tapped to run interference with Eleanor as FDR renewed his liaison with an old girlfriend. There is a scene in my book All the Presidents’ Children where Eleanor confronts her daughter Anna, begging to go to the summit in Yalta. On orders from FDR, Anna turns her down.

Lady Bird Johnson was a superb businesswoman, who later took the Johnson business interests to new heights but as First Lady, she assumed the traditional role, never contradicting her husband.

Rosalynn Carter took activism to new lengths when she actually sat in on many of her husband’s cabinet meetings.

But in general, before Nancy Reagan, First Ladies were indivisible from their husbands on policy and personnel.

Nancy Reagan broke from her husband on both even while they were seen as utterly devoted to each.

When it came to White House personnel she became known as the “great enforcer.” Any one disloyal or incompetent or politically damaging would get pushed out. The president could maintain his relationship with the former staffer. It could all be blamed on “that mean old First Lady.”

Likewise, stories would leak that the First Lady held a different view on a particular issue. This allowed the president to expand his political base and engage with editors, television producers and politicians outside of his ideological circle. This was so effective that it was repeated by subsequent First Ladies. Barbara Bush let it leak that she had different views on pro-choice. Laura Bush let it leak that she was not happy with the President’s language, “wanted dead or alive.”

If the president had let another staffer disagree on policy or personnel he would have appeared weak. But his support of his wife’s role only made him appear loyal.

This arrangement worked especially well for the Reagans because they were so publicly devoted to each other. Frank and Claire Underwood would never have gotten away with it.

Nancy could not only spot a disloyal staffer, she could spot a loyal one too. I have written before about how she brought back Michael Deaver into the inner circle after he had been kicked out. There were lots of questions about why. Why is Deaver back?

Months after this drama I was invited onto the campaign trail and joined the entourage at a hotel in Florida. It was the middle of the night. At 3 A.M. I stepped into an elevator to find Michael Deaver with his arms full of dirty underwear. He was on his way to the basement to do the laundry. I said to myself, “That’s why.”

I often tell my children this story. Michael Deaver became one of the most powerful persons in the world. His face appeared on the cover of TIME magazine. But he had to wash Ronald Reagan’s underwear to get there.

Nancy Reagan was not only the doorway out for disloyal staffers. She was also the doorway in for anyone who could help her husband and who could serve him loyally. And she knew how to spot them.

Another Shoe Drops for Hillary Clinton

January 19, 2016
Another scandal from Hillary Clinton’s time as Secretary of State has come to light.  Warning.  This is not for the faint of heart.
Throughout Mrs. Clinton’s tenure as Secretary of State she was constantly nagged by a pesky question.  Why was she refusing to name the Islamic Boko Haram as a terrorist organization? In fact, Hillary Clinton never would.  It took John Kerry’s appointment as Secretary of State to get it done?
What was the problem? Hadn’t the Boko Haram publicly pledged to assassinate the American Ambassador in Nigeria?  They had bombed the United Nation’s Headquarters in Abuja. Reportedly, the FBI, CIA, the Pentagon, the Justice Department, even the White House urged her to do so.  Some were saying that her own State Department was urging her as well?  Get this, eventually, even Al Qaeda condemned the Boko Haram.
CNN,  careful to be balanced during its coverage of the Clintons during their many scandals raised the issue and asked the question.  Congressman Peter King was interviewed saying, “For the life of me I cannot understand why?”   For more than two years the team at Fox and Friends was totally befuddled asking again and again, “Why?”
Well, now we can see more clearly.
It turns out that the Clinton Foundation had received several million dollars from Lebanese-Nigerian billionaire and Clinton campaign donor, Gilbert Chagoury. The billionaire owned the five star Ekko Hotel in downtown Lagos and the five star Presidential Hotel in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.
Bottom line? Could it be that labeling the Boko Haram as a terrorist organization would be bad for tourism?
What is especially galling is the outrage Hillary Clinton later demonstrated when the very same Boko Harm kidnapped hundreds of Nigerian school girls from a boarding school in Chibok.  Most of the girls were raped and sold across Africa as slaves by the Boko Haram.  Clinton joined First Lady, Michelle Obama in a campaign to “Bring Back Our Girls.”  The mainstream media covered the story straight.
It remains to be seen whether the media will now pick up on this story but previous accounts of Clinton’s alleged “pay to play” escapades at the State Department have passed with little or no comment.  If you resent life behind this new Iron Curtain, be sure to click on all of the links in this story and track for yourself its careful documentation.  It is one thing to live in a society where the news is censored.  It is another to passively accept it without challenge.
Contributing to the problem is a long held American media conflict about racism and religion.  For decades our television executives and publishers have discounted African deaths, especially if they involve religious-sectarian issues. From Idi Amin to Rwanda, they have unashamedly tolerated the slaughter of thousands.  On those occasions, when covering a war was unavoidable, they would show the displaced persons camps but obfuscate when it came to the cause and the identities of the combatants, letting their North American viewers guess at what was going on.  A former employee at one of the major networks told me that the use of the names Muslim and Christian were actually forbidden in news segments until the recent rise of Islamic militants made such censorship ludicrous and damaging to the media’s own credibility.
But for that small percentage of Americans who are trying to keep track of the truth and keep the tangled mess of the Clinton money trail somewhat coherent, here is a replay of what happened.  Hillary Clinton ended her tenure as secretary of state on February 1, 2013.  Boko Haram was not designated as a terrorist organization until November 2013.  Clinton never gave them terrorist designation on her watch.  Apparently, Gilbert Chagoury got what he paid for.  Say whatever you will about the Clinton’s, like the Lannister’s in The Game of Thrones, they always pay their debts.
By the way, if the national news media refused to consistently report on the massacre of Christians in Nigeria, ABC did feel it important to file a story about  Homeland Security apologizing to Clinton donor Gilbert Chagoury.  It seems that Chagoury’s name showed up on a no-fly list in 2010.  The billionaire Clinton buddy got a written apology from the Department of Homeland Security and ABC duly reported this historic and newsworthy moment in a special segment for its viewers.  You gotta stay informed.
Meanwhile, the Boko Haram slaughter of Christians in Nigeria which has been ongoing for years continues unabated.  For example, while last year Isis killed 6,000 people reports say the Boko Haram killed even more, closer to 10,000.
We may never know the salacious details of how this drama played out inside the State Department, where Hillary Clinton held off everyone from the White House to the CIA, no doubt pleasing her big money crony and Clinton Foundation donor.   She destroyed her personal emails remember?  And you can be sure those emails to Gilbert Chagoury were most definitely personal.

Rand Paul: The only adult in the room.

December 25, 2015

“Preventative war is like committing suicide out of fear of death.”

-Otto von Bismarck

This Christmas Rand Paul wrote a blog about “Peace on Earth.” The Senator pointed out that Jesus was called “the Prince of Peace,” that he taught, “Blessed are the peacemakers.”  Rand Paul is a lonely voice.  Maybe the only voice of sanity left in America.

Do we really want a war with Russia? A country with a 15% tax rate, who has more religious liberty than America and who faithfully ferries American astronauts to and from the International Space Station because America has no rockets capable of doing so for ourselves?

Do we want to punish them for having the audacity to join the war against ISIS? For wanting to avenge their own citizens, who were shot down in a commercial aircraft?

Hillary Clinton thinks so and wants us to declare a “no fly” zone over Syria, keeping the Russians out. Chris Christie thinks so too and has said he would order any Russian jet violating such a zone to be shot down.

They would go to war against the only other superpower on earth to defend our right to be the sole progenitors of mayhem in the Middle East.  We can bomb and kill our enemies.  No one else.

Ostensibly, Clinton and the Republican neo-Cons want to get rid of Syrian dictator Assad.  And that means supporting “moderate rebels” who are opposed to him in the Syrian civil war.  They warn that Russian air attacks pounding ISIS are spilling over on the so-called Islamic moderates.

The problem is after spending $500 billion the United States could only produce 50 of such “moderate” rebel soldiers to support a pro American government.  The rest, armed by the American taxpayers, went over to the dark side and are supporting Al Qaeda and ISIS, trying to overthrow Assad.  So who are these “moderates” we are afraid that Russian bombs might kill? The 54?

Several years ago, Rand Paul was warning that our tanks and trucks, given over to rebels in Syria were going to fall into the hands of terrorists.  A few months later, almost on queue, terrorists emerged from the chaos of Syria, driving American tanks across the Middle East, draped in the black flags of ISIS.

Is this really about 54 moderate Muslims?

What really drives the Clinton-Neo Con machine is money.  Isn’t it the answer to almost any puzzle?  Big companies make big bucks fighting wars.  It is why they lobbied to leave the billions of dollars of weapons and trucks behind after the War in Iraq.  Just scrap them. The more weapons we give away, the more they can get paid to produce new replacements.  And the best of all is to arm a new enemy which they must then defeat with even more manufactured weapons.

This is the money that drives the wars and this current election. A war with Russia? Imagine the fortunes that could be made?

Senator Rand Paul does not favor the dictator, Bashar Assad of Syria but he does point out that each time we topple a secular dictator we get something worse.  It happened in Libya. It happened in Iraq.  And it will be repeated in Syria again.

This isn’t about Russia, or Assad, or ISIS.  This is about big companies, making money, by waging war. And the national media, dependent on the advertising dollars of those big company conglomerates, will provide the rationale and the popular opinion to make it happen.

Peace on earth.  Good will to men?

Rand Paul is the only adult in the room.

Clinton takes a dump, Media blames Trump

December 23, 2015

Former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton’s, ill timed toilet break in front of an audience of 7.8 million television viewers is an excellent metaphor for the 2016 presidential election.  It happened during the ABC Democratic Presidential Debate, December 19, 2015.  Basically, the whole democratic process is now in the toilet.  The national media has determined to give the White House to Hillary Clinton and no scandal, no incompetence and no lack of decorum will dislodge them from their task.

“Sorry,” Clinton said when she came back to the podium.

Of course, the mainstream media is well aware that ridicule can be even more damaging than scandal so their handling of the “Clinton Dump” is instructive. The next day the television networks refused to tell anyone in their audience what had happened. If they hadn’t found out on their own through social media they were out of luck. And it had been the smallest television audience for a debate so far this cycle.  The Democrat National Committee had arranged for that, making sure it happened the week of Christmas, trying to minimize the possibility of any opposition to Clinton.

Yet the story of Clinton’s departure from the stage was so widespread that they couldn’t ignore it either.  The network evening news, with its half hour weather reports, is verging on the cliff of irrelevancy.  It had to say something.  Thus, at the beginning of the next night’s newscasts the major networks led with a story of Donald Trump’s comments on the Clinton toilet break, as well as his comments on other events.  Trump had dismissed the moment as “disgusting.”  The networks attacked Trump’s response, and did so without telling their audiences what had triggered it.  He had done it again, they intoned, for those who could figure out what had happened.  That Donald Trump is just so classless.

In fact, it is the major television networks, now bent on cramming Clinton down our throats who have become classless.  We are talking about a handful of old men, who want to see a woman elected president in their lifetime.  It will be their gift to their wives and daughters.  And while there are many civilized and intelligent Democrat women, whose creation of wealth is less criminal and outrageous than Hillary Clinton, they know that she is the only chance they have to elect a woman in their lifetime and so she will have to do.

Hillary knows this too.  And so, say her critics, she did not shrink from extorting every major international company or government on her way through the experience of Secretary of State. “They will all forget this in a few months,” Bill probably assured her. “Look at me.  The public forgets.  And remember our dinner at Claridges?  Old Mr. so and so and his daughter love you.”

When Paula Jones first made her outrageous accusations against Bill Clinton, she was dismissed by the Clinton entourage – and the national media – as “trailer park trash.”  No one believed Ms. Jones.  Women’s groups ignored her story. The nation dismissed incumbent President George H.W. Bush’s campaign emphasis on character.  Obviously, character doesn’t mean much in American society anymore.

But today, after a decade of Bill Clinton, and stained dresses, and endless stories, we know that Paul Jones was not lying.  She was being crushed by powerful men who control television and politics in America and the pain and abuse and sexual exploitation of a single young woman did not matter.  It could be laughed off. The victims of the Clinton’s must shut up and take their medicine. Laws do not apply.  Ask the Clinton’s White House counsel, Vince Foster, who once said, that in Washington “ruining people is considered sport.” Ask Sally Perdue, who was warned not to talk about her affair with Clinton. “We know you go jogging by yourself, a former Democrat Party official allegedly told her, “and we can’t guarantee what might happen to your pretty little legs.”

It is now clear that Hillary Clinton, who turned $1,000 into $100,000 in 92 transactions in less than a year in the commodities market is going to get a pass to power.  She will not be asked to answer questions about the conflict of interest of the Clinton Foundation.  It now appears she will not have to explain anything to anybody.

Only now we know.  It is not Donald Trump who lacks class.  And it is not Paul Jones who is trailer park trash. It is the Clintons and it is the wealthy, powerful old men who are delivering up America on a platter.  They are asking that once more we put the American dream and the U.S. Constitution in suspension, this time so they can make Hillary Clinton the next president, a birthday gift wrapped in a ribbon, for their indolent daughters.

To put it in Hillary’s own words, “Sorry.”  Or, “At this point, what difference does it make?”
