Most will agree with me that Barack Obama is going to get the nomination. In fact, most would agree with me that he will win the presidency, although the media will milk the suspense right up to the end. After all, they are in show business. And yes, there are weird things that happen in politics and so there is a small possibility that it may not happen. Maybe they will find a brain tumor or a girl friend.
Otherwise, we are on track for Obama. The only thing that could ruin it is the shrill voices of Obama supporters who insist on cramming him down our throats. My little brother used to get fed up losing Monopoly all the time so every once in a while he would dig in his heels and I knew that if I ever wanted him to play the game with me again I was going to have to let him win one. That’s the signal the Black community is sending out to the Democrat Party and they know it. There is no way that Hillary is going to win this. No way. And if she insists on winning somehow, it won’t be worth anything. There is a very determined, stubborn insistence on the part of many of Obama’s supporters that says, “Just try us. Just try us.”
A couple of weeks ago Tim Russert of Meet the Press had Michele Norris of NPR’s All Things Considered on his panel and she ruined the show by policing everyone. You could feel the tension. You would like to think that NPR would be somewhat objective between Hillary and Barack. After all, they are both liberals. And that same Sunday This Week With George Stephanopoulos had Donna Brazile at the roundtable, acting very cool, turning gently to George Will and reminding him that she was one super delegate that was still “uncommitted.” Yeah sure, but when the conversation drifted a little toward Hillary she snapped it all back into place with a vengengce. Ugggh. Please let us discover Obama at our own pace. Don’t make this a sermon. Don’t make this something we have to do or else go to hell. Don’t ruin it.
Actually, a part of me likes the idea of a president Obama. If nothing else it will shut up my in-laws in France who think we still practice slavery over here. So having a Black president will be cool. And by the way, before the right wing kicks in and they have Obama-phobia going full blast, I think it would be good to pause and consider that if Barack Obama is not the cure all his supporters claim, neither is he the anti-Christ that some will soon be telling us that he is. Things are never as good nor as bad as they appear, even though the haters on both extremes try to make it so. It is their source of income.
Actually, Barack Obama could be very good for America, if for no other reason that he will be popular worldwide and popularity means power. A popular American president, with an adoring world at his feet, will be able to stand up to Iran with much more credibility. Maybe even without a war. And a popular America will attract billions of dollars in overseas investment. Obama-nomics may be a very good thing for America. So, sure, go ahead my many friends on the right and get passionate about John McCain and the end of the world that is coming if the Democrats win but the truth is that Barack Obama will bring America back to favor in Western Europe and other key parts of the world where we are now hated and that will not be a terrible thing.
Obama will be a good thing for relations abroad, but, as is the theme of this party’s nomination, that isn’t an advantage he has over Sen. Clinton. By all reports, Clinton is also popular abroad, as she’s tied to her husband’s lingering legacy in Europe.
The question is a matter about which president will be more popular at home. At that, I think Obama has the clear advantage.
Yes, Obama would be good for relations abroad and he would certainly not show up with a large contingent of haters (las in Hillary haters) for his first 90 days. Bringing in foreign investment will require a change in thoguht overseas. Right now a 3 Dollar bill looks too much like a 2 Euro coin for anyone to think they may get their money out. Typically with the dollar low, you would have investments in American real estate, but as that is tanking as well, money is safer outside the US than it is inside.
That being said, given where the economy is headed in general, the next 4 years will be one ugly ride for any president.
Dont give up on Clinton. She comes back when people least expect.NH,TX,OH.
Obama’s religion is a bit scary and the willingness of everyone to give him a free pass is just a bit unsettling. But you are right, his popularity worldwide would be something to see and would make America once again a fashionable place. It would be kennedy revisited.
“A popular American president, with an adoring world at his feet, will be able to stand up to Iran with much more credibility.”
Mr. Wead, you really don’t understand the Arab mentality, do you?
The only thing they respect is force and defiance. Why do you think America has not been attacked on its shores since 9/11?
one name … George Bush.
Remember that Machiavelli said it’s better to be feared than to be loved.
Hi Doug,
It is nice to see you have a blog. An educational and entertaining article.
Most will agree with me that Barack Obama is going to get the nomination. In fact, most would agree with me that he will win the presidency…
From watching CNN, the Canadian news, and blogging, I have come to the same conclusion. I think he will survive any negative media he shall face.
From my reading and observation, I prefer him as a person over Hillary.
Actually, a part of me likes the idea of a president Obama. If nothing else it will shut up my in-laws in France who think we still practice slavery over here.
Funny. It should also assist relations with Canada, although USA-Western European relations are likely more key for American interests.
Obama will bring America back to favour in Western Europe and other key parts of the world where we are now hated and that will not be a terrible thing.
I agree.
Russ:)
Can someone please explain the advantage of currying favor with nations who look the other way in the face of Muslim immigration and its attempts to supplant whatever native culture it encounters?
Politics of appeasement and capitulation will only doom America. It’s already happening because of peacenik collectivist cowards are letting it happen before our very eyes.
