A plea from inside the Santorum camp: Work with Ron Paul

This is from a Rick Santorum coordinator in Washington State.  I edited it down because of length.  In this District they captured 17/18 Santorum/Paul Delegates and 17/18 Santorum/Paul Alternates.  Mitt Romney got zero.

The statement of the Rick Santorum coordinator:

What was done in Pierce County started the idea of both Paul and Santorum’s camps coming together.  It was an act by the people to overrule the establishment, the money, the same old solutions to problems, by the same old people that helped create those problems in the first place.

We as ordinary citizens took it upon ourselves to come together as one in unity for a common goal to make our voices heard. We put aside party and put our country first. We listened to each other as we came to a common ground on issues with mutual respect that fostered trust amongst us.

We actually accomplished in one afternoon what we as citizens ask of our leaders to do when they represent us in our nation’s capitol. In this country where checks and balances are so often a thing of the past, we common people came together as one to say No! We want something better for America’s future. In a very real sense, what we have in delegates is a check that balances the power of votes that are bought through the power of ten second sound bites we call commercials. Surely such a thing has to strike fear in the establishment so heavily vested in backing Romney.

The delegate system can be used as a reward to those willing to get off the couch and actually try and make a difference through grass roots efforts where they are free to make any alliances they choose. This is a far better use of delegates than rewarding those that just watch the television and simply show up to vote.

How big was Romney’s grass roots campaign again? Well, in the 25th District caucus he had ONE guy holding a political sign, virtually no political signs were seen about the community, and he had no representative speaker. So much for the claim to being “organized.” Depending on how delegate votes are used it can say we must do more as citizens than just showing up to vote. This is not the time for ordinary people to be sitting back and letting somebody else dictate to them what this country’s future will look like or if they’ll continue to keep the freedoms so many fought so hard to get and protect for us. Each individual must take bold steps and take action to preserve the gifts given us. At some point, and it might as well be now, people are going to reign back power from party leaders, unite and actually make something like a Paul/Santorum unity slate work. As I see it, it’s the only way to balance power, restore it back to the people and take it away from big money.

Those against such an alliance, especially elected state delegates, might want to address future problems and complaints concerning government to the person in the mirror. I fail to see the logic in people not trusting such an arrangement that both Paul and Santorum’s people have agreed to, yet they’ll trust the same people running the party for years that have helped bring us to this junction in history.

Case (s) in point with the current establishment: Why has the Republican Congress sat by idle as Obama used our military in Libya without their consent? Why has Attorney General Eric Holder not been brought up on charges by the judiciary committee?  Any actions on their part has been pure window dressing and indicative of future responses. What will it take for them to act and at what point will it be too late for all of us? THIS, is what is meant by the term “establishment,” and by and large the same ones endorsing Romney.

Personally, I trust the common Joe more than those behind the scenes that have attempted to buy, and in some cases, outright steal this nomination. Some may feel the “back room” deal between the Paul and Santorum camps, that was made right out in the open corridors of the convention, may be divisive, underhanded or cause disruption at the state convention.

Good!!! Given the Romney camp record in several states it was about time to put a stop to their practices.

Many lessons can be learned from the 25th District where Romney got the big goose egg. We need to embrace the energized supporters of Paul. We need to stop treating them like 2nd class citizens with off the wall ideals and give them props for the amazing accomplishments they’ve made in the grass roots arena.

What I found in talking with many of them is they are very intelligent independent thinkers that have a genuine love for their country. We must let their voices be heard. They’ve earned it and whether you agree or disagree with them, they’re here to stay. I’d rather have them on our side than the alternative.

I came away from the convention with a totally new perspective on things.  I’d like to hope I made some lifelong friends in the process.

We citizens of the 25th District stopped Romney cold and said, “not in our house!”

You as state delegates, right now, have the opportunity to make perhaps one of the biggest contributions to our nation’s history. It’s a precious gift and awesome responsibility that few get to experience. Nobody can predict the future, but we can learn from the past. We know that in 1976 we failed to nominate a conservative Ronald Reagan and got a Jimmy Carter and all accompanying pitfalls.

We’re repeating history putting forth Romney and you as common patriots have the power in your votes to put a stop to it. Now is the time to put country first and for leaders to step up and rise to the occasion. Now is the time to return the power back to the people. Years from now, what story will you tell your kids and grand kids?

        1. Note how the dynamic was Santorum reaching out to RP, as Santorum has a history of reaching out to others to get something done. Ron Paul doesn’t do that, he just sits there with his arms, legs, and eyes crossed, holding his breath. I doubt RP is even capable of reaching out. LOL

        2. Santorum doesn’t have to “plea” to RP, and I’m not even sure it is a good idea to even offer to work with RP, it may cause more people to question Santorum’s sanity, and therefore lower, rather than it does increase, his overall support. LOL

        3. This story is pure conjecture, we don’t know if it is true or made up by Doug Wead in order to create news. Notice how Doug didn’t post the actual email date/source, plus he “edited” to shorten it. Did he take out salient parts that would change the entire meaning of the communication? He’s done it before, I doubt he would hesitate to do it again. LOL

        It’s not “freedom at any cost”. It’s the American Constitution, at ALL costs. If we don’t follow our constitution and don’t force our representatives (haha– yes, they represent OUR wants and desires, don’t they?) in DC to follow it and allow them to continue to ignore our entire system, we will fail. We are well on our way down that path of failure and it is well past time we changed that. The only possible game-changer is Ron Paul.
        Anyone who won’t see that Ron Paul wants to help US take our country back just does not get it and is not interested in “getting it”. For that and due to the level of harassment toward all who’ve responded, here, I’m not going to be bothered with any more of it. The tool is not serious and is simply “here” to irritate everyone else. I won’t play that game.
        Besides, I am fairly sure, based on hundreds of statements, the fool is supporting Obama, or maybe Mitt- and what the heck IS the difference?

        4. Many of his domestic policies are admirable, but how does he expect to implement them when he will have to work with Congress to get many of them turned into a reality? If we pull out of foreign countries, the vacuum WILL be filled by Russia, China, etc. Once you lose your toehold, it is VERY difficult to expand military operations if the need arises. Think about how hard it would have been for the U.S. to fight Hitler if England had fallen. For example, if China decides they don’t want to allow free flow of oil, we would have no recourse, as it takes years, if not decades, to develop independent energy sources. He is simply naive to the point of being a traitor to his own country. Also, we need forward positioned military presence to fight the global war on terror. It isn’t being fought only in Iraq and Afghanistan, there are operations literally around the world preventing future 9/11 type attacks that simply cannot be fought by guarding our own borders, 9/11 should have taught us that. We must therefore disrupt the terrorist cells wherever they are, so they cannot organize, plan, recruit, train, equip, and attack again. To not do this would be suicidal.
        For the above and other reasons, Ron gets the pot smoking and “freedom at any cost” crowd, and that’s all he will ever get. LOL

        I do like the DailyPaul because there’s SO MUCH to read. There is more honesty and more truth in regard to what the US feels about Paul and the media’s doings, the terrible actions perpetrated by both the MSM and the government. I do know that the man who runs DP does this as a full-time JOB. And, the fee is minimal enough to allow just about anyone to join, but enough to (as I said earlier) keep away the riff-raff and the TROLLS.
        If they want to pay to troll elsewhere, that’s their option. I know if these same tools try to mess with Ron Paul or his supporters, on the DP, with no basis in fact, and as has happened here (just disgusting and disappointing that Doug would allow it), same tools are booted- no question.
        That is not to say people are not entitled to post their opinions (even against Paul) on DP, just that the fee prevents a lot of it, and the editiing is swift. I appreciate THAT.

  4. Well, I completely get this and, though I think Santorum is a bit more than kooky, I agree it needs to be done. Yes, Romney is their “fave”; the establishment or mainstay-pick. And the problem with the party elders choosing Romney is this: He cannot win. He will not win against Obama, and don’t we all want Obama out when all’s said and done? I believe winning is the goal of all voters, and all delegates, though I am not sure it’s the goal of Washington D.C.insiders.
    I actually think Romney is the choice because he CANNOT win the national election. It feels like Reagan (second-term) part-deux. Who recalls the Democratic nominee from that year? Was he a winner? Would he have won regardless of whom he ran against in the national election? Nobody, no, and no.

    I will be posting my letter to the Texas GOP, on my blog; It basically points out my desire to work within the party for one reason; to ensure everyone has her or his say and nobody’s vote is suppressed by anyone, for any reason. I see this Santorum supporter as very astute in her assessment of most Paul supporters and delegates. We want truth, honesty, and above all transparency, in this election and in all elections. I feel we have not seen that in a very long time (again, in my opinion, since the first time Reagan ran) and it’s time that those who care about this country take back the party. If it’s the younger and newer members, so be it, but this has to be done.

    The GOP affiliates should accept the younger crowd. It’s how the party stays alive and stays relevant. If the “established” affiliates keep up with this game of pushing-out well reasoned and studied younger voters, they may as well give up their party, now. The joke has been, “Why is the GOP suicidal?” Sadly, I don’t see it as a joke, but am willing to work primarily to help them to see what it will take to keep themselves alive, or, I am willing to help a third party develop and take their place.
    I’d say the ball is in the hands of these people– though probably not for long.

    What the GOP has been working toward is their own demise, and I am glad someone sees it, besides me!

        Still, my point was; the Dems inserted a nominee who would lose against Reagan as, even back then (what I see as the turning-point of the GOP and the DEMS too), and we are looking at the GOP now doing same with Romney. There is no way Romney will win against Obama, and so, it looks like the GOP is willing to accept another defeat. Why else would they slight the only candidate who has bested Obama in so many polls?
        Does the GOP want to win? Or, do they simply want to continue down this awful path? In my opinion, Obama is a terrible president, and many agree with me, but Romney may be same or even worse.
        Romney cannot and will not take Dem or Indy votes away from anyone. Obama will have his “base” back; those who moved in the direction of Paul, ***without conviction, will vote Obama. I feel pretty sure this has been the plan from the outset.

        In 1985, Reagan visited a German military cemetery in Bitburg to lay a wreath with West German Chancellor Helmut Kohl. It was determined that the cemetery held the graves of forty-nine members of the Waffen-SS. Reagan issued a statement that called the Nazi soldiers buried in that cemetery as themselves “victims,” a designation which ignited a stir over whether Reagan had equated the SS men to victims of the Holocaust; Patrick J. Buchanan, Reagan’s Director of Communications, argued that the president did not equate the SS members with the actual Holocaust.[199] Now strongly urged to cancel the visit,[200] the president responded that it would be wrong to back down on a promise he had made to Chancellor Kohl. He ultimately attended the ceremony where two military generals laid a wreath.[201]
        The disintegration of the Space Shuttle Challenger on January 28, 1986 proved a pivotal moment in Reagan’s presidency. All seven astronauts aboard were killed.[202] On the night of the disaster, Reagan delivered a speech, written by Peggy Noonan, in which he said:
        The future doesn’t belong to the fainthearted; it belongs to the brave… We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them, this morning, as they prepared for their journey and waved goodbye and ‘slipped the surly bonds of Earth’ to ‘touch the face of God.'[203]
        War on Drugs

        Midway into his second term, Reagan declared more militant policies in the War on Drugs. He said that “drugs were menacing our society” and promised to fight for drug-free schools and workplaces, expanded drug treatment, stronger law enforcement and drug interdiction efforts, and greater public awareness.[204][205]
        In 1986, Reagan signed a drug enforcement bill that budgeted $1.7 billion to fund the War on Drugs and specified a mandatory minimum penalty for drug offenses.[206] The bill was criticized for promoting significant racial disparities in the prison population[206] and critics also charged that the policies did little to reduce the availability of drugs on the street, while resulting in a great financial burden for America.[207] Defenders of the effort point to success in reducing rates of adolescent drug use.[208][209] First Lady Nancy Reagan made the War on Drugs her main priority by founding the “Just Say No” drug awareness campaign, which aimed to discourage children and teenagers from engaging in recreational drug use by offering various ways of saying “no”. Mrs. Reagan traveled to 65 cities in 33 states, raising awareness about the dangers of drugs including alcohol.[210]
        Libya bombing

        Relations between Libya and the U.S. under President Reagan were continually contentious, beginning with the Gulf of Sidra incident in 1981; by 1982, Gaddafi was considered by the CIA to be, along with USSR leader Leonid Brezhnev and Cuban leader Fidel Castro,[211] part of a group known as the “unholy trinity”[211] and was also labeled as “our international public enemy number one” by a CIA official.[211] These tensions were later revived in early April 1986, when a bomb exploded in a Berlin discothèque, resulting in the injury of 63 American military personnel and death of one serviceman.[212] Stating that there was “irrefutable proof” that Libya had directed the “terrorist bombing”, Reagan authorized the use of force against the country.[212] In the late evening of April 15, 1986, the U.S. launched a series of air strikes on ground targets in Libya.[212][213] The UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher allowed the US Air Force to use Britain’s air bases to launch the attack, on the justification that the UK was supporting America’s right to self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.[213] The attack was designed to halt Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi’s “ability to export terrorism”, offering him “incentives and reasons to alter his criminal behavior”.[212] The president addressed the nation from the Oval Office after the attacks had commenced, stating, “When our citizens are attacked or abused anywhere in the world on the direct orders of hostile regimes, we will respond so long as I’m in this office.”[213] As early as 1981, Reagan had referred to Gaddafi as “the mad dog of the Middle East”[214] and considered him to be public enemy number one.[215]
        Immigration
        Reagan signed the Immigration Reform and Control Act in 1986. The act made it illegal to knowingly hire or recruit illegal immigrants, required employers to attest to their employees’ immigration status, and granted amnesty to approximately 3 million illegal immigrants who entered the United States prior to January 1, 1982, and had lived in the country continuously. Critics argue that the employer sanctions were without teeth and failed to stem illegal immigration.[216] Upon signing the act at a ceremony held beside the newly refurbished Statue of Liberty, Reagan said, “The legalization provisions in this act will go far to improve the lives of a class of individuals who now must hide in the shadows, without access to many of the benefits of a free and open society. Very soon many of these men and women will be able to step into the sunlight and, ultimately, if they choose, they may become Americans.”[217] Reagan also said, “The employer sanctions program is the keystone and major element. It will remove the incentive for illegal immigration by eliminating the job opportunities which draw illegal aliens here.”[217]
        Iran-Contra affair

        In 1986, a scandal shook the administration stemming from the use of proceeds from covert arms sales to Iran to fund the Contras in Nicaragua, which had been specifically outlawed by an act of Congress.[218][219] The Iran-Contra affair became the largest political scandal in the United States during the 1980s.[220] The International Court of Justice, whose jurisdiction to decide the case was disputed,[221] ruled that the U.S. had violated international law in Nicaragua due to its obligations not to intervene in the affairs of other states.[222]
        President Reagan professed ignorance of the plot’s existence. He appointed two Republicans and one Democrat (John Tower, Brent Scowcroft and Edmund Muskie, known as the “Tower Commission”) to investigate the scandal. The commission could not find direct evidence that Reagan had prior knowledge of the program, but criticized him heavily for his disengagement from managing his staff, making the diversion of funds possible.[223] A separate report by Congress concluded that “If the president did not know what his national security advisers were doing, he should have.”[223] Reagan’s popularity declined from 67% to 46% in less than a week, the greatest and quickest decline ever for a president.[224] The scandal resulted in fourteen indictments within Reagan’s staff, and eleven convictions.[225]
        Many Central Americans criticize Reagan for his support of the Contras, calling him an anti-communist zealot, blinded to human rights abuses, while others say he “saved Central America”.[226] Daniel Ortega, Sandinistan and current president of Nicaragua, said that he hoped God would forgive Reagan for his “dirty war against Nicaragua”.[226] In 1986 the USA was found guilty by the International Court of Justice (World Court) of war crimes against Nicaragua.[227]

        By the early 1980s, many people in the US perceived that the USSR military capabilities were gaining on that of the United States. Previously, the U.S. had relied on the qualitative superiority of its weapons to essentially frighten the Soviets, but the gap had been narrowed.[228] Although the Soviet Union did not accelerate military spending after President Reagan’s military buildup,[229] their large military expenses, in combination with collectivized agriculture and inefficient planned manufacturing, were a heavy burden for the Soviet economy.[230] At the same time, Saudi Arabia increased oil production,[231] which resulted in a drop of oil prices in 1985 to one-third of the previous level; oil was the main source of Soviet export revenues.[230] These factors gradually brought the Soviet economy to a stagnant state during Gorbachev’s tenure.[230]
        Reagan recognized the change in the direction of the Soviet leadership with Mikhail Gorbachev, and shifted to diplomacy, with a view to encourage the Soviet leader to pursue substantial arms agreements.[232] Reagan’s personal mission was to achieve “a world free of nuclear weapons,” which he regarded as “totally irrational, totally inhumane, good for nothing but killing, possibly destructive of life on earth and civilization.”[233][234][235] He was able to start discussions on nuclear disarmament with General Secretary Gorbachev.[235] Gorbachev and Reagan held four summit conferences between 1985 and 1988: the first in Geneva, Switzerland, the second in Reykjavík, Iceland, the third in Washington, D.C., and the fourth in Moscow.[236] Reagan believed that if he could persuade the Soviets to allow for more democracy and free speech, this would lead to reform and the end of Communism.[237]
        Speaking at the Berlin Wall on June 12, 1987, Reagan challenged Gorbachev to go further, saying:
        “ “General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization, come here to this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” ”

        Prior to Gorbachev visiting Washington, D.C., for the third summit in 1987, the Soviet leader announced his intention to pursue significant arms agreements.[238] The timing of the announcement led Western diplomats to contend that Gorbachev was offering major concessions to the U.S. on the levels of conventional forces, nuclear weapons, and policy in Eastern Europe.[238] He and Reagan signed the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty at the White House, which eliminated an entire class of nuclear weapons.[239] The two leaders laid the framework for the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, or START I; Reagan insisted that the name of the treaty be changed from Strategic Arms Limitation Talks to Strategic Arms Reduction Talks.[234]
        When Reagan visited Moscow for the fourth summit in 1988, he was viewed as a celebrity by the Soviets. A journalist asked the president if he still considered the Soviet Union the evil empire. “No,” he replied, “I was talking about another time, another era.”[240] At Gorbachev’s request, Reagan gave a speech on free markets at the Moscow State University.[241] In his autobiography, An American Life, Reagan expressed his optimism about the new direction that they charted and his warm feelings for Gorbachev.[242] In November 1989, the Berlin Wall was torn down, the Cold War was officially declared over at a Malta Summit on December 3, 1989[243] and two years later, the Soviet Union collapsed.

        Why Ron Paul would NOT be a good president:
        1. He is old, mousey, whiny, grumpy, skinny, etc. Do not underestimate the importance of these factors, as a very large number of voters are not familiar with the issues, and vote for vanity. Sad but true. It does no good to have good ideas when you don’t have the presidential image, and Ron has neither.
        2. He has been in Congress for 2 decades and doesn’t have a single bill to his name. We elected someone president with zero accomplishments in 2008, why would we want to do that again? How can you expect him to be able to lead the country when he can’t lead a single bill to fruition after 20 years?
        3. He even voted against his own bill to audit the Federal Reserve, because he didn’t get every single detail he wanted. He is so stubbornly rigid he simply takes his toys and goes home if he doesn’t get every little detail he wants.
        4. Many of his domestic policies are admirable, but how does he expect to implement them when he will have to work with Congress to get many of them turned into a reality? Will he simply hold his breath until Congress lets him get his way, because he has zero track record of using any other tactic to be successful?
        5. Most of his foreign policies are dangerous. If we pull out of foreign countries, the vacuum WILL be filled by Russia, China, etc. Once you lose your toehold, it is VERY difficult to expand military operations if the need arises. Think about how hard it would have been for the U.S. to fight Hitler if England had fallen. For example, if China decides they don’t want to allow free flow of oil, we would have no recourse, as it takes years, if not decades, to develop independent energy sources. He is simply naive to the point of being a traitor to his own country. Also, we need forward positioned military presence to fight the global war on terror. It isn’t being fought only in Iraq and Afghanistan, there are operations literally around the world preventing future 9/11 type attacks that simply cannot be fought by guarding our own borders, 9/11 should have taught us that. We must therefore disrupt the terrorist cells wherever they are, so they cannot organize, plan, recruit, train, equip, and attack again. To not do this would be suicidal.
        For the above and other reasons, Ron gets the pot smoking and “freedom at any cost” crowd, and that’s all he will ever get. LOL

        Still, if there is nothing to save, there; no there there, why not bring a third party to the fore via a Ron Paul win?   14. I agree with you on Romney, but I just don’t see how and why you’d ever support Santorum: a man who has repeatedly voted to jail people who grow marijuana, even for cancer relief!   19. I don’t know about this Texan ad. If possible I would edit it and take out the knock against Santorum (and Newt – make a more direct appeal to Evangelicals, add in Paul’s pro-life or pro-homeschool stands).

    It might be expensive to do – but not as expensive as alienating the Santourm supporters. We need at least 66% of Santorum supporters to vote for either Ron Paul or Newt to stop Romney from getting 50% If all the future Santorum voters go to Romney we’re sunk, Romney will close the deal and get his 1144 before we get a second shot with unbound delegates.

    Not even Romney is messing around with knocks against Santorum, we all saw him pull his negative ads in PA. We can’t afford to lose because we don’t make the corrections that the other campaign has made.

  20. Mr. Wead, thank you for posting fragments of what I wrote that came to be “A plea from inside the Santorum camp: Work with Ron Paul” that has inspired a few people to post their opinions. I am not the state coordinator, but I am the person who wrote it. — Bob Saxton, Citizen of the 25th District.

    As one simply helping the Santorum campaign and who was one of the more vocal in attempting to to persuade the Santorum people of the 25th district to take the deal and trust the Paul People when they came to us with the proposed unity slate, I am now left without a candidate that I can get behind. I had hoped that by coming here and reading some of the posts I’d get some sense of direction on how to proceed personally in this race to restore America’s freedoms. — I have. I wish the Paul Campaign and their supporters the best in their future endeavors. As I said in my original writing “I’d like to think I’ve made some lifelong friends” during the process of negotiations at our county convention. Perhaps someday those paths will cross again where it’s neccesary for an alliance to occur. But, after further examination, mainly through blogs such as this it’s best for me to put my energies into other candidates at local levels and leave the remainder of the presidential race for others to squabble over. After all, all politics is local.

      In the end, there was far too little in common and came very much too late in the campaign.       1. Tex, Mr Weads had my permission to do with as he wanted. At the time I wrote it, it was intened for both camps. Such a deal would’ve been and was a tactical stroke of genius that in my opinion had the essense of the partnership continued would’ve forced a brokered convention. That is if practical minds would’ve prevailed along with Santorum staying in the race. Both camps had the ability to leverage upon each others numbers. When the deal was explained to me at the Pierce County caucus by the Santorum attorney, then followed up by the district rep, then a local attorney (who happened to be a delegate), I saw the practical sense in such a partnership. Essentially it was a win win situation for both camps. What I do know is Romney’s people screwed over Pauls people in another district within the convention. When I heard about this, I thought all the better for such a deal to take place. Now whether Paul came to Santorum or vice versa after the Romney incident I don’t know for certain, but it was portrayed to me and others as though Paul came to us. It doesn’t make any difference. As far as Mr Weads title to this blog it makes no difference to me as I wrote it intended for both camps. I am not sure if you heard the video of the Romney guys little speech or not, I did and didn’t like it. It’s plain wrong to suppress anothers like he did. We bitch and moan about the democrats and their shady practices regarding voting and we’ve got Romneys people acting like they did. So with all of this being said, I’d have to say it wasn’t Pauls or Santorums camps that came up with the idea …. it really was a response to Romney’s actions …therefore HE ought to get credit for the idea 🙂 I don’t agree with all of Dr. Pauls ideas as far as running the country, but that doesn’t give me or any other person the right to try and shaft him or his people in the process, such as Romney did.     Those that know me know I am not one to mince words or keep silent about how I feel, especially when it comes to my country. So, in that we have no Republican nominee at the moment, and therefore to my knowledge, I am not violating Reagan’s 11th commandment I have some average Joe comments to the article “Santorum, Paul camps forge partnership” ran on April 1st 2012 where I believe there’s more to the story.

    Romney wants everybody to quit. Quitting may be his solution when his back is up to the wall, but it’s not what we want from our leaders. Our country has it’s back up against the wall! We need principled fighters and not a pretty boy in a suit. We nominate Romney and it’s the equivalent of making him the starting quarterback because he simply looks good in the uniform. He’s a defensive coordinators dream. The mere fact he wins in the same places liberals do in the general election says a lot. We have a candidate in Romney that says he’s not a Washington insider, yet we can go online and see him in a closed door meeting telling supporters that you don’t get The Salt Lake City Olympics done as he did without knowing people in Washington. He used all those insider resources to collect monies and support from various agencies within government. OK fine, but for him to say he isn’t an insider is a straight up lie. People that get Washington insider endorsements like he does is clearly a Washington insider. He claims to be a conservative, yet hails from one of the most liberal states in the nation and who’s health care model is now being debated in the Supreme Court. There’s a lot of people that look at Romney and simply sees more of the same. What new dynamic does he bring to the table when our country is so desperate for a fundamental change in direction? His convictions are suspect with a laundry list of flip flopping that has to have the Obama camp salivating. Is he really the person we want debating Obama or do we want a guy that will street fight him? America still likes the underdog and he comes from well to do. People can argue he made his money on his own, he created jobs, he can get stuff done, but at what expense? Obama’s people are going to paint him as the king of corporate raiders. The pillar of dissolved industrial infrastructure that continues to kill our economy. As top heavy as he is in political contributions, you have to ask yourself what kinds of political payback will be repaid if elected? One only needs to follow the money to find the answers as we can with the financial supporters of Obama in 2008. When a guy has to outspend his opponents 10-1, or whatever it was, to win his own state there has to be some flaws in the genuine support coming from the hearts of voters. Romney clearly has not won the hearts of voters. He claims to have the organizational skills to win an election and I would hope he would after several years of hands on campaign experience. After six years of campaigning and throwing a tremendous amount of money at his goal, he still remains unsuccessful. The past three years shows us what on the job training in the executive branch does to a nation. In contrast, what both Paul and Santorum has been able to do in a short period of time with the resources allotted them clearly shows their ability to lead and lead quickly. What Romney has done is win the support of those that feel his money will come into play in the general election to compete against the Obama war chest of corrupt monies… follow the money. As a nation we must tread carefully and seem never to learn the pitfalls of money and it’s involvement in the political process. Santorum is right when he says that it’s better for a shorter race in the general election in that President Obama’s money can do less damage overall. For this to occur it’s imparitive we seek a brokered convention. And, speaking of money, does Romney intend on spending the way he does to win this nomination the same way he’d run the government if he wins? Will it be as negative in nature when our country is searching for a leader that can unite and not divide us at every turn as the incumbent has demonstrated the past three years? What’s his solution going to be when he has to make a decision regarding national security, “wait a minute guys let’s talk about this,” to people that will not listen to reason? How can he compete on the issue of health care? So, what was done in Pierce County that started the idea of of both Paul and Santorum’s camps coming together was an act by the people to over rule the establishment, the money, the same old solutions to problems by the same old people that helped create those problems in the first place. We as ordinary citizens took it upon ourselves to come together as one in unity for a common goal to make our voices heard. We put aside party and put our country first. We listened to each other as we came to a common ground on issues with mutual respect that fostered trust amongst us. We actually accomplished in one afternoon what we as citizens ask of our leaders to do when they represent us in our nations capitol. In this country where checks and balances are so often a thing of the past, we common people came together as one to say No! We want something better for America’s future. In a very real sense, what we have in delegates is a check that balances the power of votes that are bought through the power of ten second sound bites we call commercials. Surely such a thing has to strike fear in the establishment so heavily vested in backing Romney. The delegate system can be used as a reward to those willing to get off the couch and actually try and make a difference through grass roots efforts where they are free to make any alliances they choose. This is a far better use of delegates than rewarding those that just watch the television and simply show up to vote. How big was Romney’s grass roots campaign again? Well, in the 25th District caucus he had ONE guy holding a political sign, virtually no political signs were seen about the community, and he had no representative speaker. So much for the claim to being “organized.” Depending on how delegate votes are used it can say we must do more as citizens than just showing up to vote. This is not the time for ordinary people to be sitting back and letting somebody else dictate to them what this country’s future will look like or if they’ll continue to keep the freedoms so many fought so hard to get and protect for us. Each individual must take bold steps and take action to preserve the gifts given us. At some point, and it might as well be now, people are going to reign back power from party leaders, unite and actually make something like a Paul/Santorum unity slate work. As I see it, it’s the only way to balance power, restore it back to the people and take it away from big money. Those against such an alliance, especially elected state delegates, might want to address future problems and complaints concerning government to the person in the mirror. I fail to see the logic in people not trusting such an arrangement that both Paul and Santorum’s people have agreed to, yet they’ll trust the same people running the party for years that have helped bring us to this junction in history. Case (s) in point with the current establishment: Why has the Republican Congress sat by idle with regards to pursuing Obama’s long form birth certificate when it’s been found to be fraudulent by a sanctioned law enforcement agency? Why did they stand by as Obama allowed the use of our military in Libya without their consent? Why has Attorney General Eric Holder not been brought up on charges by the judiciary committee? Etc etc. Any actions on their part has been pure window dressing and indicative of future responses. What will it take for them to act and at what point will it be too late for all of us? THIS, is what is meant by the term “establishment,” and by and large the same ones endorsing Romney. Personally, I trust the common Joe more than those behind the scenes that have attempted to buy, and in some cases, outright steal this nomination. Some may feel the “back room” deal between the Paul and Santorum camps that was made right out in the open corridors of the convention may be divisive, underhanded or cause disruption at the state convention. Good!!! Given the Romney camp record in several states it was about time to put a stop to their practices. Many lessons can be learned from the 25th District where Romney got the big goose egg. We need to embrace the energized supporters of Paul. We need to stop treating them like 2nd class citizens with off the wall ideals and give them props for the amazing accomplishments they’ve made in the grass roots arena. What I found in talking with many of them is they are very intelligent independent thinkers that have a genuine love for their country. We must let their voices be heard. They’ve earned it and whether you agree or disagree with them, they’re here to stay. I’d rather have them on our side than the alternative. I came away from the convention with a totally new perspective on things and like to hope I made some lifelong friends in the process. We citizens of the 25th District stopped Romney cold and said, “not in our house!” You as state delegates, right now, have the opportunity to make perhaps one of the biggest contributions to our nations history. It’s a precious gift and awesome responsibility that few get to experience. Nobody can predict the future, but we can learn from the past. We know that in 1976 we failed to nominate a conservative Ronald Reagan and got a Jimmy Carter and all accompanying pitfalls. We’re repeating history putting forth Romney and you as common patriots have the power in your votes to put a stop to it. Now is the time to put country first and for leaders to step up and rise to the occasion. Now is the time to return the power back to the people. Years from now, what story will you tell your kids and grand kids?

It lasted close to 15 hours so in between votes many of us engaged in some very constructive dialogue. I want Obama out of there, but I don’t see Romney having much chance defeating him. Even if Romney were to win I don’t see much change coming to Washington D.C. as a result. I think we need to do a major overhaul with regards to following the constitution and ending corruption. Romney may have a small effect on such things, but not much. I see more business as usual on the horizon either way. I think given the choice between Paul or Romney, I’d vote for Paul just out of principle. For example, if China decides they don’t want to allow free flow of oil, we would have no recourse, as it takes years, if not decades, to develop independent energy sources. He is simply naive to the point of being a traitor to his own country. Also, we need forward positioned military presence to fight the global war on terror. It isn’t being fought only in Iraq and Afghanistan, there are operations literally around the world preventing future 9/11 type attacks that simply cannot be fought by guarding our own borders, 9/11 should have taught us that. We must therefore disrupt the terrorist cells wherever they are, so they cannot organize, plan, recruit, train, equip, and attack again. To not do this would be suicidal.
        For the above and other reasons, Ron gets the pot smoking and “freedom at any cost” crowd, and that’s all he will ever get. LOL

    The point of me coming on here was to gain some ideas on how or if I might find some way to continue contributing to the presidential race. I see a lot of shots taken at Paul and his people, but haven’t seen any substance put forth by you to provide any solutions on how to elect a solid conservative to office. I thought maybe you might be able to tell everybody here what things you have done boots on the ground where you live to achieve such goals. Please, enlighten us with your wisdom.

    I’ll go on record right here and say the Republican Party are a bunch of fools not to find a way to include Paul more. Why? Because boots on the ground, grass roots, and tactically speaking Paul’s people are sharp. As I see it, conservatives are probably going to get their hats handed to them in the general election. Why? Because they fail to recognize and adopt the right things Paul is and has been doing to win. As I wrote before, I’d rather have them on our side than the alternative. If Paul goes third party it’s going to get real interesting.

      I have had problems with the Republican Party since at least 1992. The bottom line is there isn’t enough difference between the Rs and Ds to make much of a difference. However, this does not mean we should move to a Libertarian candidate.

      It’s too late to get a conservative this time around, we’ll have to influence Romney as much as we can and plan for 2016 and beyond. Meanwhile, we need more conservatives at every level, local, state, and federal. I think the Tea Party has a lot of good concepts, but the one thing we should do is get term limits for Congress, a total of 12 years is my suggestion. This should be the Tea Party’s rallying cry.

      If we can’t beat Barry in this climate, we need to start over. RIP hasn’t won anything, except for storming the caucuses with their people. That is NOT a difficult tactic to copy, but the general election doesn’t have caucuses.

      Below are my issues with Paul, how would you respond to them?

    How can we have confidence that you are capable of managing Ron Paul’s campaign, when you are unable to manage your own blog?

    On any other Forum the destructive manipulations of “tex2″ would have been removed by a moderator, and the creature banned (regardless how many IP’s it uses, there are programs that can track and block them).

    On this, and even OTHER forums, I’ve read people saying that while they read your blog, they won’t post on it — since they don’t want to be verbally abused by the #2. Their take is: Why bother posting or replying here — the #2 is going to hijack the thread by peppering it with insults and non-sensical multi-replies….

    In the last 30 days, IT has posted more times than the combined total of all other posters (also, ITS total word count exceeds that of the rest)!

    Many good people are leaving your forum because of the above. Unless you take care of it, why should we stay?

Will he simply hold his breath until Congress lets him get his way, because he has zero track record of using any other tactic to be successful?
